Bee Faithful

Funny thing about God. He doesn’t ask our permission for what circumstances He will use to mold us to become more like Him. Take me for example. I am an introvert, however, God has blessed me to be the mother of a soccer team’s worth of children. I prefer the quiet, but my daily routine is usually an endless barrage of quirky questions like this one.

“Hey mom, do cats burp?” Ummm…. I admit to searching the web for that answer. ( They do, but it’s not a good sign in case you were wondering.)

I need to recharge my batteries frequently in order to serve my family with a smile. Jesus sets the example for this in the Bible.

“But Jesus often withdrew to the wilderness for prayer.” Luke 5:16

The ‘wilderness’ is simply a place that hasn’t been cultivated by mankind. For me, I walk in the nearby cemetery and take time to pray to God, listen for His guidance, and sometimes I take photos of things I find beautiful in His creation, like honey bees.

I learned something amazing about honey bees that has taught me more about spending time with Jesus. Honey bees have this lovely attribute called, “flower fidelity.” It means that they visit only one kind of flower on their foraging trips. They are loyal to ONE FLOWER! They spend all day ‘in the wilderness’ going to one source of life.

Here’s the catch. If the honey bee continually visits a flower that has been treated with pesticides, the honey bee will get an extra high dose of the pesticide.

It’s easy for us to go to the ‘wrong flowers’ and get a big dose of yuck. Or, we can be faithful to frequently visit with the One who is the true source of life, and find rest and renewal.

Bee faithful. =)
