Wrap Battles
According to a recent New York Times article, 87% of people use gift wrap for wrapping a present. Another 11% use gift bags to save “time, money, and effort.” They are lazy and we all know it. The remaining two percent are total sociopaths and you shouldn’t invite them to a Christmas party.
Ok, I made that entire article up and if you believed me you might want to consider a digital literacy class. For the record, I used gift bags this year. My teenage daughter called me a cheater. I call myself someone who enjoys sleep more than wrapping.
No matter your preference for gift wrapping – remember that there was no fancy gift wrap for the newborn Savior, Jesus – the greatest gift ever given to humanity and our reason for hope at Christmas ( and always.)
“And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger because there was no place for them in the inn.” Luke 2:7
Jesus would leave His rightful throne in heaven, trading unending angelic adoration for a stinky stable. He laid down His heavenly crown for a humbler one made up of Mary’s tender kisses.
His mother held the Savior of the world in her arms, and she lovingly wrapped him…. in rags.
No matter what you choose to give your loved ones this season or how you choose to wrap the gift, the greatest ‘wrap battle’ was won two thousand years ago in a barn. If Jesus is not yet your Savior, invite Him into your heart today.
Merry Christmas, dear reader.
