Draw Near

James 4:8  “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.”

This scripture came to mind when my son rang to show me a rainbow over my neighbor’s backyard. I quickly ran to the window in the hopes I wouldn’t miss it.

Yesterday, I began a much-needed break from reading the news because it was affecting my time with God and souring my attitude. I had begun to think of my fellow globe sharers as all this or all that. I knew I had slid down a slippery slope.

My son took this picture, and I noticed the stop sign in the middle. It’s not a sign to direct traffic, as it actually sits in the middle of a yard. It is a warning sign that a propane storage tank is buried underground. Used properly, the propane heats the home. Using the propane incorrectly could ignite the home and cause untold destruction.

God had my attention. STOP. My habit of reading the news had gone from helpful to hurtful. Sin is like that. Sin does not advance in leaps, but creeps—erosion of the spiritual soil.

I am walking away from the drama of the news to draw near to Him. To have more rainbow moments.
